above: artwork created by members of the public. By creating rubbings people animate the images and bring them to life. The pyrography plates consist of inscribed images and words that form an open book, made specifically for the site where the plates are discovered by the public. The plates form a connection between the artist, site and audience, and turn the audience into the authors of the work. People can use the plates to make their own rubbings, using pencils or crayons, which can be used to make up new stories and books, or simply become a handmade souvenir that retains an aura of the place they visited. Keats House Poetry extracts using imagery of birds and flight from John Keats Poems. The plates include images, and the text is based on his letters, and copies his handwriting style.
